21st Century Blues ? Here is another great collection of music provided by our good pal LAZZ ... I had already considered posting some Little Axe here... but LAZZ has put together 7 albums so you can really get to know how good and creative he/they can be... I'm a big fan already ... so it's down to you guys to listen and make your opinions public here at The Cult ...Don't forget to thank LAZZ for his introduction and providing some great sounds !
LITTLE AXE
I don’t know. Wikipedia identifies Little Axe as a specific
geezer otherwise known as Skip McDonald but born Bernard Alexander. Little Axe to me, however, is the name of a startling
piece of concept design projecting blues roots into a 21st century
digital universe of studio mix tricks. Deep and ancient while up-to-the-minute modern.
A complete and unified package.
Despite the juxtaposition of “hip-hop” and
“sensitivity” striking my curmudgeonly self as oxymoronic in the extreme,
McDonald himself is alleged to possess a hip-hop sensitivity, worked-up and
developed during his time in the house-band for the fledgling Sugarhill label,
playing on sessions for a number of early rap albums by undoubtedly famous guys
of whom I have never heard.
Also in the house-band were bass-player
Doug Wimbish and drummer Keith LeBlanc.
Together, they drifted from Sugarhill and began doing work at Tommy Boy
Records where the good river serendipity washed them into the company of visiting
UK producer Adrian Sherwood – who encouraged the trio to relocate from New York
to London and work with him at On-U Sound.
Sherwood is a unique experimental maverick
who has accumulated massive respect for his skills and vision, blending punk
with reggae, revitalizing and rehabilitating Lee Perry, inciting African Head
Charge, and re-mixing a roster of the most unlikely pop. But he is best known and favoured in my
kitchen for his expertise in dub.
This odd collection of influence and
ingredients, stirred and cooked, seasoned with guest artists, make Little Axe.

Totally unfamiliar with this guy, but based on this post, I went and listened to some stuff on Spotify. Wow - how in the hell have I been missing him?!? Thanks Lazz!
Thanks again for posting on my behalf, Gus.
I agree with pmac's "Wow" completely.
Glad you like, Mac, and hope others get hipped also.
I am always interested in hearing anything with Sherwood's name on it.
Most creative and expressively complete production I have ever bumped into.
Yesssss!!
Looks good I am in.
I am always amazed at how many prolific artists there are in the world. Full and amazing careers and yet they can somehow go under the radar. LAZZ this is an embarassment of riches, thanks so much.
Funnily enough I was thinking about posting some Little Axe here but you beat me to it. And you've included one I haven't got - 'Bought For A Dollar...'!
Many thanks, Lazz.
I have only checked out a little of this so far but sounds really interesting and unique. Looking forward to digging in to it. Thanks for the generous sampling and post, Lazz and Gus!
