Harvey Mason - Marching In The Street (1975)

A re-post...Because it's that good !...And after 40 years still remains one of my favourite albums.

Harvey Mason is a truly great and influential drummer and percussionist. He has just about played with everybody, most noteworthy as a member and composer on Herbie Hancock's Headhunters album, now considered a jazz classic, and as a member of the band Fourplay.

This jazz-funk masterclass is his first and finest solo record, including a top-notch roster of jazz musicians. The album opens, quite literally, with a funky march that really cooks. Some lovely wah-wah trumpet soloing from Blue Mitchell and Chuck Rainey's bass is kickin'. The beautiful melody of 'Modaji' follows with a haunting flute performance by Hubert Laws.

The rest of this quality set continues in a funky soulful groove with some strong and interesting  songs and individual contributions.

Soloists include Herbie Hancock, Bennie Maupin, Lee Ritenour, Frank Rosolino and others.

Enjoy some great funky jazz-soul ...here as flac or 320 ! Gus

Many Thanks! While I'm definitely familiar with Harvey Mason the jazz musician/producer/arranger - this fusion LP is new to me. Looking forward to listening. Thanks again!
